In 1949 he obtained a PhD in sciences at the University of Wroclaw and in 1955 a DSc in mathematics at the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1955 he received a scientific title of professor and in 1957 of full professor.

In 1964 he was elected a member-correspondent of the Polish Academy of Sciences and in 1983 a full member.
